How does it work?

There are a number of different acids used in chemical peels to target different areas of epidermis and hair follicle depending on the skin condition you are trying to treat.

Lactic acid plays with the water in the upper layers of the epidermis and helps to dissolve the keratin bonds that keep dead skin cells attached. This is known as an epidermal exfoliator.

Salicylic acid is a Beta Hydroxy Acid. It bypasses the dead skin entirely, enters the hair follicle where it breaks down excessive sebum and dead skin that can lead to acne congestion, white heads and black heads.

Resorcinol works by breaking down rough, scaly, or hardened skin which helps improve cellular turnover. In youthful skin, the cellular turnover process will happen within 28 days. Meaning in just 4 weeks, the body will have made a new skin cells, it will have migrated all the way up the layers, become dead skin and shed off. This means that young skin is very good at rejuvenating itself and very good and repairing and replacing damaged skin tissue.

When we age, the cellular production in the basal layer slows right the way down. Meaning the body doesn’t make as many new skin cells. Cellular migration is slower and by the time that the skin reached the surface of the skin where it’s visible to the naked eye, it could be up to 50 or 60 days old. This means the skin isn’t as good at repairing and replacing damaged tissue. That can cause and lead to skin conditions such as aging, pigmentation, and acne.

By performing a chemical peel we lower the pH of the skin and dissolve the keratin bonds that keep these dead skin cells layers attached. The body responds to this missing dead skin, by triggering the production of new skin underneath. When you perform a chemical peel, we can trick the body into performing like a more youthful skin. This leads to new production of skin. Increased shedding of dead skin leading to a more youthful and radiant complexion.
